How to wear tailoring this Winter

If there’s one Winter trend you need in your wardrobe, it’s tailoring. The brilliance of a tailored piece is in its confidence enhancing powers, yes, but also in its versatility – Phan’s vintage suit trousers above look just as great dressed down with trainers (not that she often gives up her heels!) and Alice’s blazer lifts everything from our perennial floral dress to her weekend wide-legged jeans.

Full disclosure: we haven’t always had such easy relationships with a perfectly crafted seam. Phan’s City career launched in the era of the black Reiss skirt suit (remember those?!): the last thing on her mind was being equally tailored at the weekend. And Alice’s fashion beginnings meant her focus was far more on the perfect pair of jeans, than the perfect suit jacket. But then something changed: workwear shifted. As our work and weekend wardrobes merge, tailoring has become exciting again.
We loved the way these pieces made us feel. We walked taller and instantly felt more professional. Plus we think they look great too.
So our advice to you is to invest in some tailoring this Winter. Why not push your fashion boundaries and try a piece you wouldn’t ordinarily venture: a bright two piece or tailored dress? We promise it will become the mainstay of your wardrobe this season. And your new professional vibe might just help you nail that elusive work opportunity too.
As ever, we’ve each included some of our favourite picks to SHOP NOW below. Our looks above are also in stores now. All apart from Phan’s suit which she repurposed from her Mum’s wardrobe: any children of 80’s power women go raid their wardrobes now too (it’s amazing what a tiny bit of alteration can do).
